Central Kentucky Job Club releases 2018 fall schedule

The University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Services and UK Human Resources Staff Career Development are pleased to announce Job Club’s 2018 fall schedule. The purpose of the Central Kentucky Job Club is to provide a positive environment for motivated job seekers to meet, connect, share and learn. The free group is open to the public and meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Services office, 1140 Harry Sykes Way, Lexington, Kentucky. Business attire is encouraged. Convenient, free parking is available.

Job Club is for you if you are motivated and currently out of work, underemployed or looking to make a career transition. In addition, recruiters and employers are always welcome and introduced to Job Club attendees. Job Search Strategies that Work — Presented by Caroline Francis, UK Alumni Career Services
Not sure what you should be doing in your job search? Start the fall off with a crash course in job search strategies that will help in your transition. Get an overview of best practices in resume writing, networking and interviewing. Learn more about how successful candidates land positions. Caroline will also share some of her favorite resources to help keep you current in your search.

The Bluegrass Economy: Where We Are and Where We’re Going — Presented by Ryan Kaffenberger, Research Director, Economic Development Commerce Lexington
Many people know the Bluegrass for bourbon, basketball, and thoroughbreds. While these qualities certainly make us a unique and attractive place to live, there is even more that makes our region a great place to work. This presentation will provide a snapshot of Lexington and the Bluegrass Region’s current economy and industries, highlighting some of the important assets that have contributed to our business diversity, and discuss Lexington’s economic outlook.

Preparing for Your Next Interview — Presented by Caroline Francis, UK Alumni Career Services (Free resume critiques immediately following Job Club for attendees)
Attend this session and learn more about what to expect in your next interview and how to prepare. Telephone interviews, as well as in person interview tips will be covered. Time will also be devoted to practicing common interview questions.

Building A Career on Your Strengths — Presented by Michelle Jones, UK Training Specialist
Almost every person asks the same questions: What is the right career for me? What should I consider doing now? What is my best fit? These are complex questions that involve more than just strengths. Goals, interests and education also play key roles in career development. This presentation will help you explore some of your personal strengths as a starting point toward career clarification.
