Every two years, University of Kentucky graduates have an opportunity to nominate an alumni representative to the UK Board of Trustees by casting a vote. The three candidates with the most votes are presented to the governor of Kentucky. Gov. Andy Beshear recently appointed Ruth Day to the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees as an Alumni Trustee. Day’s term began July 1, 2026, and runs through June 30, 2032. She replaces Paula Leach Pope whose term expired June 30, 2026. Day joins two other Alumni Trustees: Brenda Baker Gosney, whose term expires in 2028, and Hanna Miner Myers, whose term expires in 2030.
Ruth Day of Madisonville, Kentucky, and Jacksonville Beach, Florida, is a 1985 graduate of UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics with a Bachelor of Science in accounting with distinction. While at UK, she worked in the engineering library and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority serving as vice president of finance and of the accounting honor society of Beta Alpha Psi.
She serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Gatton College and volunteered in the Women Business Leaders mentoring program. She is a UK Fellow, a UK Alumni Association Life Member, a member of UK Women and Philanthropy and 2012 inductee of the Gatton College Hall of Fame. She served two terms on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors and received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2020.
She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and started her career with Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) in Louisville. She retired after 29 years with Landstar System, Inc., headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, a transportation services corporation where she served in financial management positions. After retirement, Ruth returned to work as chief information officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
A widow, Day spends considerable time in Lexington, sharing her townhouse with nieces and nephews while they earned their graduate degrees from UK. She is a founder, past president and currently treasurer of the Jacksonville UK Alumni Club. She is a member of the Dawson Springs Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. Her family is all Big Blue as her parents and three siblings graduated from UK.
Hannah Miner Myers of Madisonville, Kentucky, graduated in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in middle school education from the UK College of Education. She was president of the UK Alumni Association (UKAA) from 2020 to 2021 after serving on the board of directors. She received the UKAA Joseph T. Burch Young Alumni Award in 2004 and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013 and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Myers has a bachelor’s degree in interior design and a double master’s degree in education and education administration. She served eight years on the Madisonville City Council, where she was the first female chairperson. She is in her third term on the Hopkins County Fiscal Court as a magistrate for District Seven and as the budget chairperson.
She is an active community member and received the Lions Club Women of the Year Award and the William Corum Community Service Citizen of the Year Award. She is a past Rotarian and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Church in Earlington, Kentucky. She has served as a member of the Community Foundation board, Baptist Health Foundation board, Economic Development Council, tourism board, past chairwoman of the Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Cardinal Garden Club. Myers taught middle school for more than 15 years and served as an adjunct professor of education for Murray State University regional campus. She is a UK Alumni Association board member, Life Member, member of Women for Philanthropy, UK Fellow and is active with the Hopkins County UK Alumni Club. She is married to Bradley J. Myers.
Brenda Baker Gosney from Butler, Kentucky received a Bachelor of Health Science degree in physical therapy and a Master of Science in education degree in higher and adult education from the University of Kentucky. She spent her professional career in healthcare and retired as chief executive officer of HealthSouth Northern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital (now Encompass Health). Early in her career, she was on the faculty at UK in the College of Health Sciences Physical Therapy Program.
Active in professional organizations, Ms. Gosney was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association (KPTA) and held the offices of president of KPTA and chief delegate to APTA. In the business community, she served on the board of directors of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce; and was a member of the executive committee as secretary and as chair of the inaugural Health Initiatives Committee.
A Life Member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Brenda continues to be active on the board of directors and is currently chair of the Alumni Center Committee. She was national president of the UK Alumni Association for the 2013-2014 term. She is a past president of the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati UK Alumni Club and is on the advisory council of the board of directors. Ms. Gosney is a 2010 recipient of the UK Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. Brenda is a member of Women and Philanthropy, Wildcat Society and the UK Fellows Society.
