Summer Job Club schedule announced

The University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Fayette County Cooperative Extension Services and UK Human Resources Staff Career Development are pleased to announce Job Club’s 2019 summer schedule. The purpose of the Central Kentucky Job Club is to provide a positive environment for motivated job seekers to meet, connect, share and learn. The free group is open to the public and meets at 9 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Services office, 1140 Harry Sykes Way, Lexington, Kentucky. Business attire is encouraged. Convenient, free parking is available.

Job Club is for you if you are motivated and currently out of work, underemployed or looking to make a career transition. In addition, recruiters and employers are always welcome and introduced to Job Club attendees. Job Club Summer Meeting Schedule:

June 11: What is Your TRUE COLOR? — Presented by Reba Carroll, assistant director, UK James W. Stuckert Career Center
True Colors is a personality assessment that looks at our basic temperaments and assigns colors to those four temperaments derived from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment. This tool can help you recognize strong attributes that can reinforce your job search decisions. This self-discovery instrument is taught in a group setting and is loads of fun.

June 25: Nail Your Next Interview: Strategies to Maximize Your Response — Presented by Amanda Schagane, associate director, UK Alumni Career Services
Tell me about yourself. Give an example of a time when you received critical feedback? Why are manhole covers round? Join us for a fun and engaging session on interview strategy. Specific strategies for different types of interview questions will be addressed.

July 9: Building Your Board of Directors — Presented by Amanda Saha, director of career development and academic enrichment, UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment
Many organizations achieve great success under the direction of a trusted board of advisers. As a job seeker, there are sure to be individuals in your network who you routinely tap on the shoulder for support and guidance. Are there others in your network that you might be missing? It is no secret that highly successful people reach out and ask for help along the way. Creating a support system, like a board of directors, is an excellent way to keep oneself in check and learn from those who might have more experience or a different perspective. We will discuss how to build a personal board of directors and provide tips to capitalize on the robust personal and professional network that you already have.

July 23: Resumania: How to Avoid Mistakes and Write the Perfect Resume and Cover Letter — Presented by Lisa James, division director, Robert Half
Want to learn how to craft a compelling cover letter and resume that will land you an interview? Then this session is for you! This presentation will cover the attributes of strong resumes and cover letters, as well as common mistakes to avoid.

Aug. 13: Leveraging Resources to Launch Your Business — Presented by Shawn Rogers, director, Bluegrass Small Business Development Center
Are you thinking about starting a business? Good news! There is an abundance of resources available to assist you in the process. During this session, you will learn about resources available from the U.S. Small Business Administration, as well as local resource from the Bluegrass Small Business Development Center and Commerce Lexington’s Access Loan Program.

Aug. 27: Mastering Your Executive Presence: Using Nonverbal Skills to Managing First Impressions — Presented by Tamika Tompoulidis, personal development counselor, UK Honors College Center for Personal Development
This presentation will demonstrate the right interpersonal skills needed to create and enhance an executive presence, whether networking or interviewing. It will include managing first impressions and building self-confidence when speaking to an individual or a group of people.
