UK junior Carly Raker is interested in a career in accounting and learning more about graduate schools. She logged on to Wildcat Network to connect with a recent accounting graduate to ask for career advice as part of an extra credit opportunity in one of her courses, CIS 300: Strategic Business and Professional Communication.
UK alumni Matt Susemichel, who serves as a Corporate Auditor for Kroger in Cincinnati, Ohio, said he was pleasantly surprised to see that Raker had reached out over the Network.
“That alone made me realize that Carly is doing the right steps while still in the UK community to try and find out more about post-graduate life and how she can put her valuable UK degree to use in the professional world soon,” Susemichel said. “Carly asked some great and insightful questions about the accounting industry and just my experience at UK and now beyond that time as well. I hope my insights were able to be helpful for her to narrow down her decisions as it comes to what area she might want to work in!”
“Matt talked to me about his undergraduate and graduate school experience. This was very helpful because I plan on applying to graduate schools this summer. He also went into detail about his experience in private versus public accounting,” Raker said. “It was a great networking experience overall and a great connection I now have.”
