In an effort to keep everyone safe this fall amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and still celebrate Homecoming, the University of Kentucky Alumni Association will be hosting several Homecoming at Home virtual events throughout the week. While there will be no in-person events, we hope Wildcats will have some fun and reminisce with fellow alumni, family and friends about their time as a student at the University of Kentucky.
The Class of 1970 Golden Wildcat Virtual Happy Hour is at 5 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 7, via Zoom. The Class of 1970 50th Reunion celebration has been postponed until October 2021, but the Golden Wildcats can join their classmates in a Virtual Happy Hour and enjoy the chance to reconnect with former classmates and make new friends.
At 7 p.m. EDT Thursday, Oct. 8, join Terry Birdwhistell, senior oral historian at the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries, as he shares stories and photos about UK’s past Homecoming celebrations during A Bird’s Eye View of Homecoming at UK Through the Years. Did you know that UK’s first modern Homecoming was celebrated in 1915? Did you know that the Homecoming royalty tradition didn’t start until the 1950s? Did you know there used to be a Homecoming parade complete with elaborate floats that would wind its way through downtown and campus? Be prepared to take a trip down memory lane as you recall your own special Homecoming memories and get answers to any questions you might have about UK history.
Kentucky will take on Mississippi State at 7:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Homecoming game. A limited number of single game tickets are available at www.ukathletics.com/2020football. If fans can’t make it in person, be sure to visit www.ukathletics.com for additional gameday details.
While you may not be able to be on campus for Homecoming, take Flat Wildcat with you wherever you go. Flat Wildcat is the exclusive flat version of your beloved University of Kentucky mascot. Include him in your selfies, group photos and fun settings. Share your pictures on your favorite social media channels using #FLATWILDCAT.
