Virtual 5K raises more than $17,000 for UK Basic Needs Fund

The UK Alumni Association family came up huge on Derby Day. More than 1,000 people from 37 states participated in the association’s First Saturday in May Virtual 5K.

The event was free, but more than $17,000 was raised for the UK Basic Needs and Persistence Fund.

And since it was Derby Day, there had to some kind of win, place and show. Participants were asked to post photos of them doing their walk or run. Clubs were encouraged to get as many members taking part and prizes were awarded based on club participation percentage.

In-state Club Participation:

  • Win: Daviess County
  • Place: Lake Cumberland
  • Show: Dead heat photo finish between Shelby County and Danville/Boyle County

Out of state Club Participation:

  • Win: Jacksonville
  • Place: Central Florida
  • Show: Pacific Northwest
