On Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, a ceremony was held on the University of Kentucky campus as Woodland Glen 1 residence hall was renamed Chellgren Hall in honor of UK alumnus Paul Chellgren ’64 BE. Chellgren, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Ashland Inc., who, along with his wife Deborah, recently donated $12 million to the University of Kentucky.
He gift will to support the Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence.
The gift includes:
- More than $3.5 million from Paul W. and Deborah Cole Chellgren to support the Chellgren Center; $1.25 million of that amount will launch the Chellgren Initiative to advance undergraduate excellence.
- $8.5 million will be used to create an endowment to support ongoing programmatic needs of the center. The $8.5 million comprises a life insurance policy and death benefit payable to the university.
The Chellgrens are generous supporters of the university, with a total philanthropic impact, including this current pledge, of more than $18 million.
